Yael Goverover

Yael Goverover is a Professor and Post-Professional Program Director in the Department of Occupational Therapy at New York University's Steinhardt School of Culture, Education, and Human Development. She holds a visiting professorship at the Neuropsychology & Neuroscience Laboratory of Kessler Medical Rehabilitation Research and Education Center. Her research focuses on cognitive and functional impairments caused by brain injuries and multiple sclerosis (MS), with a focus on developing interventions to improve everyday functioning and quality of life for affected individuals.

Dr. Goverover earned a bachelor’s degree in occupational therapy from Tel Aviv University (1993), a master’s in developmental psychology and educational counseling (1996), and a PhD in occupational therapy from NYU (2002). She has been recognized with the National Institute on Disability and Rehabilitation Research Fellowship award and has secured grants from the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.

Her work emphasizes practical applications such as self-regulation strategies, telehealth interventions, and functional cognitive assessments (e.g., Actual RealityTM). Key research areas include memory rehabilitation in MS, leisure re-engagement post-TBI, and the impact of systemic lupus-related cognitive impairments. She has published extensively on topics like cognitive screening, dual-task performance, and pandemic-related disruptions in healthcare access.

Dr. Goverover collaborates with interdisciplinary teams to bridge clinical practice and research, advocating for patient-centered outcomes and quality-of-life metrics in neurological care. Her contributions span over 100 peer-reviewed articles and grant-funded projects advancing neurorehabilitation methodologies.
