Dr. Fleur van der Feen is a Research Fellow in Clinical Neuropsychology at the University of Groningen’s Faculty of Behavioural and Social Sciences, specializing in neurovisual rehabilitation for neurodegenerative disorders. Her work focuses on integrating low-vision rehabilitation with neuropsychological approaches to address visual complaints in Multiple Sclerosis (MS), Parkinson’s disease, and dementia patients. She leads the NAH-Progress initiative, a collaboration with Royal Dutch Visio and clinical centers to establish national guidelines for visual rehabilitation in neurodegenerative diseases. Her research emphasizes patient-centered care and multidisciplinary interventions, with a focus on improving diagnostic accuracy and rehabilitation outcomes through validated screening tools.
Her expertise spans visual dysfunction assessment, rehabilitation protocol development, and the complex interplay between cognitive and visual impairments in neurological conditions. She collaborates closely with Prof. Joost Heutink and Dr. Gera de Haan on projects analyzing visual complaints in MS and Parkinson’s disease using advanced statistical methods and patient-reported outcome measures. Key contributions include validating the Dutch Screening Visual Complaints questionnaire and proposing stepped care models for reading difficulties in Parkinson’s patients.
Dr. van der Feen’s research has been featured in peer-reviewed journals like Clinical Rehabilitation and Neuropsychological Rehabilitation, addressing topics such as visual rehabilitation efficacy, cognitive-visual interactions in MS, and neurodegenerative symptom profiling. Her work bridges clinical practice and academic research, aiming to translate evidence-based strategies into practical rehabilitation solutions.
