Karin Sandell is a Project Researcher at Åbo Akademi University's Faculty of Arts, Psychology and Theology, specializing in cultural sustainability and affective practices. She works within the Culture, History and Philosophy department on interdisciplinary projects addressing hate speech, temporality, and language-based minority issues in Finland, Sweden, and Russia.

Research Focus: Dr. Sandell examines affective practices in online hate speech, media debates, and environmental discourses. Her work explores dehumanization strategies, historical metaphor construction, and rural community dynamics.
Scientific Contributions: She has published extensively on Finnish-Swedish language relations, including:
- 2022 monograph Parasites and “better people”
- 2023 commissioned report Rurala stannare
- 2018 Folklore article on hate speech analysis
External Roles: Since 2025, she serves as Editor for Elore journal and is currently a Visiting Scholar at University of Eastern Finland.
