Fredrik Nilsson is a Professor at the Department of Culture, History and Philosophy within the Faculty of Arts, Psychology and Theology at Åbo Akademi University. His research focuses on cultural studies, history, and ethnology, with an emphasis on Scandinavian contexts, memory studies, and socio-cultural dynamics. He has been involved in multiple interdisciplinary projects, including 'Disrupted Temporalities' and 'Coexisting Money Practices in Everyday Life,' exploring themes such as temporalities, Holocaust memory, and cashless societies.
His academic career includes extensive contributions to cultural history, ethnology, and Scandinavian studies. Key projects include analyzing smuggling networks in the Baltic Sea region and investigating national identity through border studies. He has also led initiatives on material culture and everyday life in 20th-century Sweden, blending historical and ethnographic methods.
Nilsson’s publications span books, edited volumes, and peer-reviewed articles, addressing topics like medical ethics, mythology, and socio-political boundaries. His work frequently intersects with transdisciplinary collaborations, such as projects on Holocaust memory preservation and environmental humanities. He actively engages in public lectures and cultural initiatives, exemplified by his participation in the 'Kunskapskabarén' theater project.
