- Research Focus: Gender in sports, extreme sports participation, women's running events
Lindelöf's research interests center on gender construction in sports and physical activity, with particular emphasis on how gender intersects with other identity markers like class, ethnicity, and age. She examines how sports participation functions as a cultural phenomenon that both reinforces and challenges gender norms, particularly in extreme sports and women-only running events. Her work combines ethnographic methods with discourse theory and intersectional analysis to explore how physical activity shapes and is shaped by cultural understandings of gender, body, and nature.
Her recent research on extreme sports participation reveals how these demanding physical challenges function as a cultural phenomenon that both reinforces and challenges gender hierarchies. Through her analysis of events like Nordenskiöldsloppet and Ö till ö, she demonstrates how participation in extreme sports creates new possibilities for gender expression while simultaneously reproducing certain gendered expectations. Her publications show a consistent focus on how women navigate sports spaces that remain predominantly coded as masculine, despite women's increasing participation.
