Kari Nadeau holds the John Rock Professorship of Climate and Population Studies in the Department of Environmental Health at Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health and serves as Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School, with clinical practice at Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital and Clinics. Her dual appointments bridge environmental science and clinical medicine, focusing on population-level health impacts of environmental exposures.
Her research program centers on three interconnected pillars: molecular mechanisms of human responses to environmental exposures; development and evaluation of interventions (including policy, technology, and community initiatives) to improve health outcomes and measure societal impact; and translation of environmental science into public health policy, with special emphasis on vulnerable populations facing disproportionate environmental risks. This work integrates laboratory science, epidemiology, and policy advocacy.
Analysis of her 2025 publications reveals dominant themes in climate-health intersections, particularly wildfire impacts on respiratory and cardiovascular health using wearable technology, and cutting-edge allergy/immunology research. Key trends include Type 2 immunity mechanisms in allergic diseases and COVID-19, food oral immunotherapy clinical trials (shrimp, peanut), exposomics of air pollution and chemical exposures, and health equity frameworks for environmental policy. Her work consistently connects molecular findings to population health outcomes.
