Inês Paciência is an Academy Postdoctoral Researcher at the Centre for Environmental and Respiratory Health Research (CERH) within the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Oulu, Finland. Her work investigates the interplay between environmental exposures and respiratory health outcomes, particularly asthma and allergic diseases across diverse settings.
Her research spans Public Health, Environmental Health, and Epidemiology, with emphasis on dynamic interactions between indoor environments, neighborhood characteristics (green/blue spaces, land use, biodiversity), and respiratory conditions. She examines life-course exposure effects, climate change impacts, and biodiversity loss on asthma development and allergic sensitization, integrating autonomic nervous system responses and critical exposure periods.
Scientific recognition includes:
- PhD grant by Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT)
Dr. Paciência chairs the European Academy of Allergy and Clinical Immunology's "One Health" working group and leads projects including ClimBReath (studying climate change-biodiversity-respiratory health interdependence) and ICREH (analyzing four-decade climate impacts on respiratory health). She is embedded in the Research Unit of Population Health and actively contributes to international environmental research collaborations.
