Professor Karen Randell is a Professor of Film and Culture and Honorary Research Fellow at the Research Institute for Media, Arts and Performance (RIMAP), University of Bedfordshire. Her research focuses on intersections between film, culture, and technology, with a specialization in horror cinema, romantic narratives, and the historical representation of the body in early 20th-century films. Current projects include a British Academy-funded study on Lon Chaney and Elinor Glyn’s films of the 1920s, exploring how technology and suffering shaped artistic expression.
She has co-edited influential volumes such as The War Body on Screen, Reframing 9/11: Film, Popular Culture and the War on Terror, and Screening the Dark Side of Love. Her scholarly articles appear in Screen and Cinema Journal. Collaborations include work with Professor Alexis Weedon on the technologizing of the body in silent film.
Her academic contributions span contemporary media studies, post-Jungian analysis in gaming, and cross-media storytelling. She advises on research degrees in areas like political journalism and sport and media through RIMAP's graduate programs.
