Patrick Adamson is an Associate Lecturer in Film Studies at the University of St Andrews and an Editor at Open Screens. He specializes in silent-era Hollywood cinema, particularly the Western genre and national mythmaking. His work explores transnationalism, historical representation, and cultural identity in films. He has held editorial roles at Cinergie, Frames Cinema Journal, and INTER- The Journal for Global Thought.
Adamson’s research has been published in journals such as Film History: An International Journal and Film Journal, as well as edited volumes like Transnationalism and Imperialism: Endurance of the Global Western Film. His monograph Projecting America: The Epic Western and National Mythmaking in 1920s Hollywood is set for release in 2025.
He has received prestigious awards, including the 2021 SERCIA Best PhD Dissertation Award and the 2020 BAFTSS Best Doctoral Student Article Award. His research interests include silent film, frontier narratives, and the intersection of cinema and historical discourse.
Adamson’s academic contributions extend to invited talks, such as “Making History in Silent-Era Hollywood” in 2024, and editorial leadership across multiple journals. His work bridges historical film analysis with contemporary cultural studies.
