معرفی
Karen Luttrell is an Associate Professor in the Department of Geology & Geophysics at Louisiana State University (LSU), part of the College of Science. Her research focuses on crustal stress dynamics, deformation processes, and interactions between tectonic, hydrologic, and magmatic systems. She holds a PhD in Geophysics from Scripps Institution of Oceanography, UCSD, and a Bachelor's in Physics & Geophysics from Texas A&M University.
Key research areas include:
- Seismic hazard assessments using community earth models
- Crustal stress heterogeneity analysis via focal mechanisms and geodetic observations
- Hydrothermal system behavior in Yellowstone Lake and other volcanic regions
- Glacial isostatic adjustment impacts on fault stress regimes
- Mid-ocean ridge propagation dynamics
Recent work highlights the role of hydrologic loading in subsidence patterns of South Louisiana and the interplay between ice loading and fault activity in Central Europe. She collaborates on interdisciplinary projects combining geodesy, seismology, and biogeochemistry to understand Earth system interactions. Dr. Luttrell actively contributes to departmental diversity initiatives addressing systemic racism in academia.
