Dr. Demián Gómez is an Associate Professor in the Division of Geodetic Science at the Ohio State University's School of Earth Sciences. His research focuses on regional and global reference frame realizations using geodetic techniques, with applications in studying geodynamic processes like earthquake cycles and glacial isostatic adjustment. He has held significant positions including Chief Geodesist at Argentina's National Geographic Institute and Chair of SIRGAS Working Group II.
Education includes:
- Ph.D. in Earth Sciences (Geophysics), University of Memphis (2016)
- M.Sc. in Earth Sciences (Geophysics and Seismology), University of Memphis (2014)
- Surveying Engineering, Universidad de Buenos Aires (2011)
His research explores the intersection of geodesy and geophysics, particularly through GNSS data processing (GAMIT/GLOBK) and ionospheric responses to geophysical events. Recent work examines earthquake deformation patterns, glacial mass balance in Patagonia, and ionospheric disturbances during solar eclipses.
Publications demonstrate a consistent focus on advancing geodetic methodologies for crustal deformation monitoring, with recent emphasis on improving reference frame accessibility in seismically active regions and precision gravity measurements.
Active grants include GEO-ESCON (2023-2025) for developing hybrid kinematic-dynamic trajectory models. Professional experience encompasses field campaigns across South America and Antarctica, management of geodetic networks, and development of processing clusters.
