Surui Xie is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Houston, affiliated with the Cullen College of Engineering. His research focuses on marine and coastal geodesy, land subsidence, glacial dynamics, and earthquake monitoring. He leads the Marine and Coastal Geodesy Group at UH.
Education: Ph.D. in Geology from the University of South Florida (2020), M.Eng. and B.Eng. in Geodesy and Survey Engineering from Wuhan University (2014, 2011). Professional experience includes postdoctoral research at Scripps Institution of Oceanography (2020–2022).
Research interests emphasize geodetic techniques like InSAR, GNSS-Acoustic systems, and terrestrial radar interferometry. Key topics include coastal subsidence in Louisiana and Bangladesh, seafloor deformation in Cascadia, and glacial processes in Greenland. His work bridges geophysics, environmental science, and engineering to address climate and tectonic impacts.
Publications span geodetic instrumentation, subduction zone dynamics, and glacial-seismic interactions. He collaborates internationally on seafloor geodesy experiments and volcano hazard assessments.
