Andrew Newman

Dr. Andrew Newman is a Professor and Associate Chair for Undergraduate Studies in the School of Earth & Atmospheric Sciences at the Georgia Institute of Technology. His research focuses on active deformation and failure of the Earth's lithosphere in seismic and volcanic regions, emphasizing geohazards. He utilizes seismology and geodesy (GPS, InSAR, seafloor geodesy) to study earthquake mechanics, magmatic processes, and subduction zone dynamics. Newman holds a Ph.D. in Geophysics from Northwestern University (2000), an M.S. from the same institution (1997), and a B.S. from Texas Tech University (1995). Awards include the Cullen-Peck Fellow (2016) and NSF CAREER Award (2009).
