Karen Hughes is a Senior Lecturer at Manchester Metropolitan University with 14 years of teaching experience and Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA). She leads the Specialist Community Public Health Nursing (Health Visitor) Postgraduate Diploma Programme, focusing on training professionals in health visiting practices. Her nursing background includes a Bachelor of Nursing (Hons) and over 20 years as a Specialist Community Public Health Nurse (Health Visiting). She holds a Postgraduate Certificate in Higher Education and is an NMC-registered Teacher and Community Practitioner Nurse Prescriber.

Her research explores the emotional impact of social media on parenting and children’s experiences, societal barriers to breastfeeding, school readiness, and evidence-based practices in health visiting. She teaches modules such as Foundations of Health Visiting, Quality Leadership in Action, and Assessing Infants and Children (0–5 Years).
