Karen Hands is an Associate Fellow at the Saïd Business School, University of Oxford. She holds multiple roles including:
- Chair of the Strategic HR Committee at Community Forest Trust
- Board Advisor to small companies and high-growth start-ups
- Involved in the Michael Beverley Innovation Fellowship at Leeds University, providing team mentoring
- Member of the Women Angels of the North Syndicate, supporting female founders
Education:
- Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) in Chemical Engineering from University College London.
- Chartered Fellow of the Chartered Management Institute (CMI).
Research Interests:
Karen’s work focuses on empowering women in business through leadership development and advocacy. She promotes environmental, social, and governance (ESG) principles, mentors early-career academics in innovation, and supports female entrepreneurs through angel investing. Her book Networking Know-how explores effective networking strategies for small businesses.
Advising and Grants:
As Head Tutor of the Women’s Leadership Development Programme, Karen leads a global team delivering virtual learning to female executives. She has advised Bootstrap Enterprises during its growth phase and McCourts Consultancy in business development. Her governance roles include Chair of Governors at Darwen Vale High School and Vice Chair at Wakefield FE College.
Labs and Teams:
Karen collaborates with the Michael Beverley Innovation Fellowship at Leeds University, mentoring academic teams. Through Say it Karen Ltd., she designs leadership training for women. She also contributes to initiatives like the Women Angels of the North Syndicate, fostering female-led ventures.
