Karen Gregory is a Senior Lecturer in Digital Sociology at the University of Edinburgh's School of Social and Political Science. She co-directs the MSc in Digital Sociology and co-leads the Digital Social Science Research Cluster. Her work examines digital labor, platform economies, and the intersection of work, risk, and gender in technology-mediated environments. She is an Associate Editor at the Journal of Cultural Economy and contributes to Platforms and Society.
- Research Interests: Digital labor, platform society, risk in gig economies, ethnography, mixed methods, gender and technology, algorithmic management.
- Projects: Worker Data Science (funded by Edinburgh Futures Institute), Visualising Hidden Platform Labour, and studies on data-driven education ethics.
- Advising: Supervises PhD students in digital sociology, platform labor, and affective work. Notable former students include Kath Bassett and Idil Galip.
- Media Engagement: Featured in the BBC, The Guardian, and Wired Magazine.
