Dr. Geetha Marcus is a Senior Lecturer in Teacher Education at the Moray House School of Education and Sport, University of Edinburgh, with affiliations to the Institute for Education, Teaching and Leadership (IETL). She has previously held roles at Queen Margaret University and the University of Strathclyde.

Research Interests center on socially progressive teacher education, intersectionality, and decolonizing curricula. Her work explores the lived experiences of marginalized young people, particularly Gypsy/Traveller girls, through post-colonial and Black feminist frameworks. She advocates for culturally sustaining pedagogies and examines how systemic inequalities related to race, gender, and class impact educational outcomes.
Recent Publications (2015–2023) span qualitative studies on Gypsy/Traveller communities, critiques of institutional racism, and strategies for anti-racist curriculum design. Her scholarship often intersects with translingualism, oral history, and digital education, emphasizing socially just pedagogies.
Scientific Awards:
- 2016: CORERJ Editorial Board and Readership (CEBR) Award for most outstanding paper.
PhD Supervision: Dr. Marcus advises students on topics such as BAME teacher experiences and non-traditional women in higher education. She has also contributed to General Teaching Council of Scotland (GTCS) policy reviews and Education Scotland racial literacy programs.
Knowledge Exchange: She co-edited Anti-Racism in Education: Stories of Growing Activism (2023) and organized the BSA Mentoring Symposium for women of color researchers (2017). Her work has been featured in media outlets including the Edinburgh International Book Festival and the BBC Academy.
