Karen Cartwright is a Senior Lecturer in Physiotherapy and Practice Education Lead for the undergraduate physiotherapy programme at Wrexham University, bringing nearly 30 years of clinical experience from NHS and independent sectors across acute, community, and education settings.
She qualified as a physiotherapist from the University of Brighton in 1993 and is currently pursuing a Professional Doctorate in Education. Her clinical specialization evolved from acute care to learning disabilities, reflecting her deep engagement with complex patient populations.
Her research focuses on Rehabilitation Sciences and Neurology, with particular emphasis on Acute Care interventions and Learning Disabilities support systems. She champions widening participation in higher education through innovative approaches to disability access and inclusive pedagogy.
As Practice Education Lead, she oversees clinical placements and curriculum integration, ensuring students gain comprehensive exposure to diverse healthcare environments while addressing systemic barriers for disabled learners.
