Karen Boleska is an Assistant Teaching Professor and Director of the Sport Management program at the University of Missouri-St. Louis (UMSL), College of Education. She joined UMSL in 2020 as the founding faculty member of the Sport Management program and has since played a pivotal role in shaping its academic and experiential curriculum. She also served as a Visiting Teaching Professor at the University of Limoges in France, where she taught 'American Professional Sports.'
Dr. Boleska's research and teaching focus on practical and ethical dimensions of sport management. Her areas of interest include legal and ethical issues in sports, sports media and technology, and sports sales. She emphasizes experiential learning through internships, volunteering, and service-learning opportunities, preparing students for real-world challenges in the sports industry.
Her innovative teaching has been nationally recognized with the 2023 Chancellor's Award for Sustained Excellence in Online Teaching. She has guided students to top rankings in the National Collegiate Sports Sales Competition in 2022 and 2023, with experiences at major events like the NCAA Final Four, Super Bowl, and NFL Draft informing her pedagogy.
Her notable achievements include establishing a groundbreaking academic partnership between UMSL and STL CITY SC, bridging academia and professional sports. This collaboration provides students with hands-on learning and industry exposure.

As Faculty Advisor for the Sport Management Club and a member of several dissertation committees, Dr. Boleska actively contributes to student development and academic leadership.
