Karellas Sotirios

Professor Sotirios Karellas is affiliated with the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA) as a full Professor in the School of Mechanical Engineering, Section of Thermal Engineering. He has held academic positions at NTUA since 2001, including Assistant Professor (2011-2015) and Associate Professor (2015-2019), and maintains visiting professorships at Universität Bayreuth and TU München.

• Ph.D. from Technische Universität München (2005), focused on biomass energy systems
• Diploma in Mechanical Engineering from NTUA (2001)

His research spans thermodynamic cycles, energy system optimization, and sustainable technologies, with emphasis on:

• Organic Rankine Cycle (ORC) applications
• Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS)
• Hydrogen production and energy storage solutions
• Waste-to-energy systems and biomass utilization

As Director of NTUA's Laboratory of Thermal Processes, he leads research initiatives in decentralized energy production and clean technologies. His academic leadership includes committee memberships in EULiST and NTUA's Scientific Committee.
