Karel Novotný (b. 1964) is a Professor of Philosophy at Charles University since 2019 and a researcher at the Institute of Philosophy of the Czech Academy of Sciences (CAS) since 1990. He co-directs the Central European Institute for Philosophy at CAS and Charles University and serves as Vice-Dean for Habilitations and Appointments at the Faculty of Humanities, Charles University.

His research focuses on phenomenology, metaphysics, and the soul-body relationship from Kant to contemporary thought, with emphasis on French and German philosophy. He has led 7 grant projects since 1993 and collaborated extensively between France and the Czech Republic.
Key publications include monographs on Jan Patočka and eco-phenomenology, with 6 books (3 foreign), 18 co-edited volumes (13 foreign), and over 80 studies. He has been a Fulbright Fellow (2022–2026) and guest scholar at 7 foreign institutions.
