معرفی
Dr. Kara Anderson (She/They) is an Associate Research Fellow at Deakin University's School of Medicine within the Faculty of Health, affiliated with the Institute for Mental and Physical Health and Clinical Translation. Her research primarily focuses on bone health, musculoskeletal conditions, and epidemiological studies related to fractures and osteoporosis.
Dr. Anderson holds a Doctor of Philosophy from Deakin University, along with multiple undergraduate degrees including a Bachelor of Criminology with Distinction, Bachelor of Forensic Science with Distinction, and a Bachelor of Health and Medical Science (Honours), all from Deakin University. Her educational background provides a unique interdisciplinary perspective to her research.
Her research interests span clinical sciences and epidemiology with particular emphasis on bone mineral density changes during menopause, fracture risk assessment, bone material strength, and the relationship between metabolic conditions and skeletal health. She has made significant contributions to understanding how parental fracture history affects offspring risk and how advanced bone assessment techniques can improve fracture prediction.
Dr. Anderson's research portfolio demonstrates strong expertise in population-based studies, particularly the Geelong Osteoporosis Study, where she has applied advanced methodologies including peripheral quantitative computed tomography (pQCT) and bone impact microindentation to assess bone quality beyond traditional bone mineral density measurements.
- Current Doctoral Supervision: Mia Percival (Paternal determinants of offspring growth and musculoskeletal health), Rishitha Panuganti (Cardiovascular risk factors and bone health)
- Research Funding: Multiple grants from Amgen supporting bone material properties research
- Professional Activities: Active participant in the Australian and New Zealand Bone Mineral Society
Her work has practical implications for clinical practice in osteoporosis diagnosis and fracture risk assessment, with numerous publications in high-impact journals spanning 2023-2025 that address critical questions in bone health across different demographic groups and life stages.
