Kaoru Shimizu is a Lecturer in Japanese language and culture at Seattle Central College's Continuing Education program. She holds a Bachelor of Arts from Kansai Gaidai University in Japan, majoring in English Language and Communication. With over six years of teaching experience, she has instructed Japanese language and culture to both adults and children at various local language schools. During the pandemic, she transitioned to online private tutoring, catering to all proficiency levels.
Her teaching philosophy prioritizes student engagement through collaborative activities, media analysis, and creative methods like song-based learning. She emphasizes a supportive environment where learners feel comfortable experimenting with language without fear of mistakes.
Before her teaching career, Kaoru worked in the private sector in Japan and the United States. Her personal interests include traveling, cooking, nature walks, cinema, flower arrangement, and reading.
