Kamar Ameen-Ali holds the position of Senior Lecturer in Biomedical Science within the SHLS Life Sciences School at Teesside University. His research focuses on neuroinflammation's role in dementia progression, with particular emphasis on vascular dementia and Alzheimer's disease. He is actively involved in editorial roles for journals such as Frontiers in Neuroscience and Molecular Neurobiology, and serves as a reviewer for Animal Cognition. As a course leader, he oversees the BSc (Hons) Biomedical Science and BSc (Hons) Human Biology programs, while also leading key modules including Pathology, Human Ageing and Disease, and Science Research Project.
His external activities include roles as Local Group Representative for the British Neuroscience Association and contributor to Dementia Researcher content. Notable collaborations involve the CONNECT-TBI network studying traumatic brain injury outcomes. Recent research highlights include investigations into zebrafish welfare in experiments, axonal sodium channel dysfunction post-concussion, and astrocytic tau pathology in chronic traumatic encephalopathy.
