Dr. Shelley Forrest is a Senior Research Fellow and Group Leader at the Dementia Research Centre within the Department of Biomedical Sciences at Macquarie University. She specializes in neuropathology and neurodegenerative disease mechanisms, particularly frontotemporal dementia and aging-related disorders. Her work employs histology, immunohistochemistry, and transgenic models to study protein abnormalities and cellular vulnerabilities in neurodegenerative conditions.
- Education: PhD in Neuroscience (University of Sydney, 2013), BSc (Hons) in Anatomy and Pathology (UNSW, 2007).
- Postdoctoral training at the University of Sydney's Discipline of Pathology.
Research interests include tauopathies, protein abnormalities in neurodegeneration, and clinicopathological correlations. She leads a neuropathology program integrating human tissue analysis and transgenic models. Key collaborations include international consortia validating age-related tauopathies.
Active in grants, she co-leads the NHMRC-funded project on Alzheimer's disease inhibition failure (2023–2026). Previously held an Honorary Lecturer position at the University of Sydney (2020–2021).
