Kajal Gokal is a Senior Research Fellow at Loughborough University, supported by an NIHR Advanced Fellowship. Her research focuses on behavioral medicine, particularly behavioral interventions for cancer prevention and management. She leads the Prevention and Treatment of Chronic Illness theme within the Centre for Lifestyle Medicine and Behaviour. Kajal holds a PhD in Psychology from Loughborough University and an undergraduate degree in Psychology from Aston University.
Her professional journey includes roles as a Research Associate at Coventry University and Senior Research Associate on the NIHR-funded Snacktivity program (2019–2020). She has collaborated on projects funded by NIHR, MRC, and CRUK, developing digital health interventions and evaluating their impact. Key areas of expertise include physical activity promotion, behavior change techniques, and health professional-patient communication.
Key research interests involve using small behavior changes (e.g., Snacktivity™) to address sedentary lifestyles and cancer risks, alongside co-designing interventions with communities. Her work integrates qualitative and quantitative methods, including randomized controlled trials and feasibility studies.
Scientific achievements include the NIHR Advanced Fellowship (2024) and contributions to systematic reviews on physical activity outcomes in cancer patients and weight management strategies. Kajal’s interventions often target underserved populations, such as low-resourced mothers and cancer survivors, emphasizing social cohesion and accessibility.
