Regine Kahmann is a Professor of Genetics at Philipps University Marburg and Director of the Department of Organismic Interactions at the Max Planck Institute (MPI) in Marburg since 2000. She has held prominent academic positions including Professor for Genetics at the Institute for Genetics and Microbiology at Ludwigs-Maximilians-University Munich (1992–1992) and leadership roles in independent research groups at institutions like the Institute for Genebiological Research Berlin (1992) and Otto-Warburg Laboratory at the Max-Planck-Institute for Molecular Genetics (1986–1982).

Research Interests span molecular phytopathology, fungal plant pathogens, and host-pathogen interactions. Honors and Awards include the Bavarian Order of Maximilian for Science and Art (1999), Leibniz Prize (1993), and memberships in prestigious academies such as Academia Europaea and the European Molecular Biology Organisation (EMBO). She has also received the Cross of the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany (1998) and a Teaching Prize from LMU Munich.
