Július Horváth serves as Professor in the Department of Economics and Business at Central European University (CEU) in Vienna and Budapest since 2019, following prior leadership roles including Head of Department (2017-2019), Dean of the Business School (2016-2017), and multiple departmental leadership positions at CEU since 1999. His career spans institutions across Hungary, Slovakia, and the Czech Republic, including Academia Istropolitana Nova and the Czechoslovak Academy of Sciences.
His research centers on social and economic transitions to market economies, history of economic thought, monetary policy integration, and East-West economic convergence, with significant contributions to understanding post-communist transformations in Central and Eastern Europe. This work bridges theoretical economic history with contemporary policy challenges in transitional economies.
Horváth has received distinguished recognition including the Czech Minister of Education's Medal for Contribution to Higher Education (2016) and extensive service in academic governance:
