János G. Filep is a Full Professor at the Université de Montréal, affiliated with the Faculty of Medicine and the Department of Pathology and Cell Biology. His research focuses on vascular immunology, inflammation mechanisms in cardiovascular diseases, and the resolution of inflammation. He leads the Innate and Vascular Immunology Unit at the Centre de recherche du HMR (Hôpital Maisonneuve-Rosemont).
Education:
- MD from Semmelweis University, Budapest (1978)
- Postdoctoral training at Semmelweis University, Fischer-Bosch Institute (Stuttgart), Medizinische Hochschule Hannover (Hannover), and Université de Sherbrooke
Research Interests: Dr. Filep investigates innate immune mechanisms in sepsis and acute coronary artery disease, CRP structure-function relationships, mitochondrial DAMPs in sepsis, and pro-resolving lipid mediators. His lab explores neutrophil dysfunction, endothelial cell signaling, and therapeutic targets for inflammation resolution.
Publications: His recent work emphasizes CRP's pro-inflammatory conformational changes, DAMP-driven immune dysfunction, and resolvin-mediated tissue repair. Key themes include neutrophil biology, anti-inflammatory mediators, and translational cardiovascular research.
Awards:
- Medal for Science and Peace (2003)
- Gold Medal for Canada (2010)
- Distinguished Fellowship Award (2018)
- Star Reviewer (APhysS, 2019 & 2022)
Grants & Labs: Lead researcher on multiple grants from the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) and NSERC, focusing on FPR2 receptors, CRP mechanisms, and sepsis pathophysiology. Collaborates on cell-sorting technologies and molecular interaction analysis.
