Justine Gagnon is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Geography at Laval University's Faculty of Forestry, Geography and Geomatics, with office space in the Abitibi-Price Pavilion (room 3163).
Education:

Her research centers on Cultural Geography, Indigenous Geographies, and the Geography of Memory, examining cultural landscapes, heritage preservation, and Indigenous knowledge systems through decolonial frameworks. She investigates how memory practices shape spatial relationships in Indigenous territories, with emphasis on collaborative methodologies for safeguarding cultural sites.
Professor Gagnon supervises five active graduate students across PhD and Master's programs while mentoring recently graduated scholars. Her funded projects analyze Indigenous cultural landscapes, sacred spaces, and participatory mapping initiatives supported by SSHRC, FRQ-NT, and university partnerships.
She contributes to the Interuniversity Center for Indigenous Studies and Research (CIÉRA), the Indigenous Peoples Research and Knowledge Network (DIALOG), and the scientific committee of the Chair of Leadership in Teaching (CLE) for Indigenous Forestry Education.
