Justina Uriburu is a Lecturer in International Law at the University of Manchester and Co-Director of the Manchester International Law Centre (MILC). She holds editorial roles at EJIL: Talk!, Journal of International Dispute Settlement, and Latin American and Caribbean Journal of International Law. Her research focuses on international dispute settlement, the history of international law, and Latin American legal dynamics. She challenges traditional narratives about international adjudication, particularly in the context of the Americas, and explores the influence of law firms on state litigation strategies.
Uriburu earned a law degree from Universidad Torcuato Di Tella (Argentina), an LLM as a Chevening Scholar at University College London, and a PhD summa cum laude from the Geneva Graduate Institute. She has held prestigious fellowships, including the Max Weber Fellowship at the European University Institute. Her career spans academia, international consultancy, and public service, including advising federal prosecutors on international criminal law in Argentina.
Her research interests include the history and theory of international law, international courts, and the intersection of law with collective security and climate change. She has published in top journals such as the American Journal of International Law and co-edited special issues on critical junctures in Latin American legal order-building.
Uriburu’s work contributes to SDGs related to justice and strong institutions. She actively engages with current legal developments through blogs and public commentary, emphasizing the need for diverse perspectives in international law. Her recent publications analyze diplomatic tensions, ICJ cases involving Latin American states, and the legacy of historical legal frameworks in the region.
