Professor Iain Scobbie holds the Chair in International Law at the University of Manchester's School of Law, where he is also Director of the Manchester International Law Centre. Previously, he served as Sir Joseph Hotung Research Professor in Law, Human Rights, and Peace Building at SOAS, University of London. He studied at the Universities of Edinburgh, Cambridge, and the Australian National University. His research focuses on international humanitarian law, international adjudication (especially the role of the International Court of Justice), and legal theory. Scobbie has held editorial roles for the European Journal of International Law's blog EJIL: Talk! and chaired committees for the Lieber Prize. His work contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goals related to law and justice.
