Justin L. Grobe, PhD, FAHA, FAPS, is a Professor in the Department of Physiology and Biomedical Engineering at the Medical College of Wisconsin (MCW), holding the Butenhoff Family Professorship in Cardiovascular Research. He directs the Comprehensive Rodent Metabolic Phenotyping Core (CRMPC), a facility he founded in 2019. Grobe’s academic journey includes a BS in Biology and Chemistry from Hope College, PhD in Pharmacodynamics from the University of Florida, and postdoctoral training at the University of Iowa. He joined MCW in 2019 after serving as an Associate Professor at the University of Iowa, where he helped establish a metabolic phenotyping core.
His research focuses on four key areas: neurocircuitry linking blood pressure and metabolism in the hypothalamus (focusing on angiotensin AT1R receptors in AgRP neurons), long-term cardiometabolic consequences of premature birth-related sodium depletion, molecular mechanisms of preeclampsia (including vasopressin signaling), and innovative technologies for rodent metabolic assessment. His work has led to patents for preeclampsia diagnostics and interventions.
Grobe’s leadership roles include directing CRMPC and serving on institutional committees such as the MCW MSTP Admissions Committee. His honors include the FAHA and FAPS fellowships and the 2022 COH Mid-Career Award for Research Excellence. His publications span 2023–2025, addressing metabolic dysfunction, hypertension, and neuroendocrine signaling in rodent models.
