Justin Bengry is a Visiting Senior Research Fellow in the Department of History at King's College London. He founded and directed the world’s first MA in Queer History at the University of London (2017-2024), and directed the Centre for Queer History. His research focuses on queer history, cultural history, media studies, and public history, with key projects including the Pink Pound, Turing’s Law, and LGBTQ+ experiences of the pandemic. He co-leads the NOTCHES blog and the History Workshop Journal.
His expertise spans queer capitalism, LGBTQ+ policy, and oral history methodologies. He has collaborated with Historic England on LGBTQ heritage preservation and led the Queer Pandemic project, creating the world’s largest queer oral history archive of pandemic experiences. Bengry has taught globally for over 25 years, specializing in queer historiography and European/world history, and supervises postgraduate students in queer studies across contexts.
He regularly engages with media and public audiences through lectures, keynotes, and expert panels, addressing topics from queer terminology to the importance of historical archiving. His work bridges academia with activism, museums, and policy-making.
