Juris Ērenpreiss serves as a Leading Researcher at the Scientific Laboratory of Molecular Genetics within Riga Stradins University's Institute of Oncology and Molecular Genetics. His career centers on molecular mechanisms of male infertility, with expertise in genome instability, exome sequencing, and seminal plasma biomarker development.
His research explores chromatin structure abnormalities, Y chromosome variations, and transposable element dysregulation in infertility. Key methodologies include cell-free DNA fragment analysis and exome sequencing to identify genetic causes of idiopathic azoospermia. This work bridges molecular genetics with clinical diagnostics to address declining global sperm quality trends.
Recent publications (2023-2025) demonstrate a strategic shift toward non-invasive diagnostics using seminal plasma biomarkers, integrated genomic analyses for idiopathic infertility, and psychosocial dimensions of reproductive health. These studies consistently target clinical translation through biomarker validation and diagnostic panel development.
Ērenpreiss has secured multiple grants including the Latvian Council of Science-funded 'Investigating Genome Instability in Male Infertility' (2020-2021) and RSU's 'Gene Panel for Male Infertility Diagnosis' project (2020-2021). He currently supervises PhD candidate Romanosa, R. on cell-free DNA profiling in azoospermia (2023-2027).
He leads the Molecular Genetics research team at Riga Stradins University, collaborating with Lazovska, Gailīte, and Puzuka on seminal plasma diagnostics and genomic instability projects. This group maintains active clinical partnerships and contributes datasets to international repositories.
