Junfeng Zhang is a Professor at the Department of Environmental Health & Engineering, Duke University School of Medicine. Prior to Duke, he held professorial roles at the University of Southern California (Environmental & Global Health) and Rutgers School of Public Health (as Professor, Department Chair, and Associate Dean). He directs the Environmental and Biomarkers Analysis Laboratory and has over 290 peer-reviewed publications.

His research integrates epidemiological and toxicological approaches to study air pollution health effects, focusing on biomarker development, health-climate co-benefits of pollution interventions, and biological mechanisms of environmental exposure impacts. Current projects include residential air purification trials in Los Angeles and particulate matter-pollution interaction studies in Mongolia.
Notable scientific awards include the Jeremy Wesolowski Award (2012) and Rutgers Distinguished Alumni Award. Recent grants include NIH-funded studies on inflammation resolution in air pollution cardiometabolic effects (MIRACLE) and molecular mechanisms of pulmonary inflammation (RAPIDAS).
