Dr. Yan Lin is an Assistant Professor in Environmental Natural Sciences at Duke University. He holds a Ph.D. from the University of California, Los Angeles (2019), an M.S. from Peking University (2014), and a degree from Duke University (2024). His research focuses on environmental health impacts, particularly investigating air pollution's effects on cardio-metabolic health, respiratory systems, and maternal/fetal outcomes.
Key research areas include understanding how air pollutants interact with viral exposures, prenatal exposure timing of PM2.5 and NO2, and the development of biomarkers for long-term pollution exposure. Lin's work bridges environmental science with public health policy, as seen in studies evaluating China's clean air policies and their measurable reductions in PAH exposure.
He has secured grants from prestigious institutions including the National Institutes of Health and American Heart Association. Recent projects examine the Maui WUI fire's mental/health impacts, melatonin's role in night-shift cancer prevention, and sex differences in air pollution-induced inflammation resolution. Lin's interdisciplinary approach integrates epidemiological studies, toxicological analysis, and policy evaluation.
His lab is affiliated with Duke's Nicholas School of the Environment, located in Grainger Hall. Current research emphasizes translational environmental health solutions addressing both acute and chronic exposure effects across diverse populations.
