Jeremy Sarnat is an Associate Professor in the Gangarosa Department of Environmental Health at Emory University's Rollins School of Public Health. His research focuses on air pollution exposure assessment, epidemiology, and public health interventions. He holds a ScD from Harvard University and has extensive experience in environmental health research, including studies on particulate matter, traffic-related pollution, and respiratory health outcomes.
- Education: BA (University of Michigan), MS (Indiana University), MSc & ScD (Harvard University)
- Professional Affiliation: Panelist, Particulate Matter Review Panel, EPA's Clean Air Scientific Advisory Committee (2021–present)
His research explores the health impacts of air pollution, particularly on vulnerable populations such as asthma patients and individuals with diabetes. He has published extensively on exposure assessment methods, particulate matter composition, and the effects of traffic-related pollutants. His work integrates epidemiological studies with advanced analytical techniques like metabolomics to better understand pollution’s biological pathways.
Key research themes include: characterizing urban air pollution exposure, evaluating measurement errors in pollution studies, and identifying pollutant sources linked to adverse health effects. Recent work investigates the role of air pollution in exacerbating conditions like asthma and diabetes, as well as its potential influence on outcomes during the COVID-19 pandemic.
