June Abbas is a Professor and Director of the School of Library and Information Studies at the University of Oklahoma, as well as the Interim Director of the Dodge Family College of Arts & Sciences Data Scholarship Program. She holds the Edith Kinney Gaylord Presidential Professorship and serves as Editor-in-Chief of Library and Information Science Research. Abbas earned her PhD in Information Science from the University of North Texas in 1998. Her research focuses on youth information technology use, libraries as transformative organizations, human-centered design, and knowledge organization.
Her academic roles include teaching core courses such as LIS 5043 (Organization of Information), LIS 4/5523 (Online Information Retrieval), and LIS 4/5453 (Digital Collections). She actively engages in grant-funded projects addressing youth digital media needs, inclusive library spaces for disabled learners, and community-driven library initiatives. Abbas has led national discussions on bridging theory and practice in library science through her editorial work and conference leadership.
