JunJie Wu is a Professor and Department Head of Agricultural and Resource Economics at North Carolina State University. He previously held the Emery N. Castle Endowed Chair in Resource and Rural Economics at Oregon State University and directed their Center for Agricultural and Environmental Policy. Dr. Wu is also a University Fellow at Resources for the Future (Washington, D.C.), a leading environmental policy think tank. His research focuses on the intersection of agricultural production, land use patterns, and environmental quality, with emphasis on policy design for agro-environmental issues, spatial modeling of land-use change, and rural-urban interdependencies. He has authored influential studies on topics like climate change impacts on irrigation, wildfire risk management, and the economic drivers of environmental degradation.
Key areas of expertise include environmental economics, resource economics, and regional development. He has been recognized with major awards, including the Quality of Research Discovery Award from the American Agricultural Economics Association and election as a Fellow of the Agricultural and Applied Economics Association (2016). Dr. Wu has editorial roles at top journals like the American Journal of Agricultural Economics and Journal of Regional Science.
His work addresses policy challenges such as optimal design of crop insurance programs, balancing open space conservation with urban growth, and mitigating environmental consequences of urbanization.
