Gerhardus Schultink

Gerhardus Schultink is a Professor of International Resource Development and AgBio Research at Michigan State University (MSU), affiliated with the Department of Community Sustainability within the College of Agriculture & Natural Resources. He also serves as Director of Land Tenure and Administration Projects and previously held roles such as Associate Director of the Land Policy Institute. His expertise spans natural resource surveys, land use planning, environmental policy, and spatial information systems. He has extensive international consulting experience with institutions like USAID, the World Bank, and FAO, focusing on projects in over 20 countries. Schultink developed the CRIES software system, widely used in resource evaluation and policy analysis globally.

Educationally, he holds an undergraduate degree in Landscape Management and a graduate degree in Resource Management from Wageningen University (Netherlands), followed by a Ph.D. in Resource Development from MSU. His courses include ESA 320 (Resource Management), ESA 415 (Environmental Impact Assessment), and ACR 830 (Sustainable Development Planning).

Research interests emphasize land governance, agro-ecological modeling, and sustainable development. Notable projects include work on Indonesian agrarian reform, Thai environmental protection centers, and Lesotho land administration reviews. He serves on editorial boards for journals like the International Journal of Agricultural Sciences and Journal of Paddy and Water Environment.

Publications focus on urbanization impacts, wetland protection, and comparative land-use policies. His recent work addresses gender dimensions in land security (Lesotho) and Mozambican land tenure evaluations. He actively contributes to international development initiatives through policy design, project evaluation, and capacity-building programs.
