Dr. Songqing Jin is a Professor in the Department of Agricultural, Food, and Resource Economics at Michigan State University (MSU), affiliated with the College of Agriculture & Natural Resources. He joined MSU in 2007 and specializes in international agricultural development, with a focus on land tenure systems, rural development, and gender inequality. Prior to MSU, he worked as a research economist at the World Bank.

Research Interests: Land tenure and institutional change, rural non-farm economy, labor migration, gender inequality, and agricultural technology evaluation. His work spans East Asia, South Asia, and Sub-Saharan Africa. Current projects include evaluating China’s agricultural policies and the Scaling Up Sweet Potato Through Agriculture and Nutrition Project.
Publications & Projects: Jin’s recent work explores e-commerce adoption’s impact on farmers, land rights reforms, and gender disparities. His research highlights trends in digital agriculture, rural structural transformation, and policy evaluation. Key themes include the interplay between property rights and development outcomes, as well as agricultural productivity in low-income economies.
Grants & Advising: Active in policy-oriented research, Jin has collaborated with the World Bank and MSU’s Food Security Group. His teaching includes advanced development economics and econometrics courses. He advises students on topics ranging from land markets to gender discrimination.
