Dr. Jun Yang is an Associate Professor (Research) in Medicine at Hudson Institute, a Consultant Endocrinologist at Monash Health, and an Early Career Research Fellow at Monash University's School of Clinical Sciences. She leads the Endocrine Hypertension Service and is Principal Chief Investigator on multiple national and international research projects. Her work bridges clinical practice and discovery science, focusing on primary aldosteronism (PA) and cardiovascular endocrinology.
Education:
- MBBS (Honours, Rank 1), Monash University (2001)
- PhD in Molecular Biology and Medicine (Mineralocorticoid Receptors), Monash University (2013)
Research Interests: Coregulator discovery for mineralocorticoid receptors (MR), PA diagnosis and management, hypertension pathophysiology, and translational medicine. Key projects include optimizing adrenal vein sampling techniques, identifying PA biomarkers, and establishing Australia's first national PA registry (PACE).
Recent Research Trends: Articles focus on PA's role in cardiovascular risk (stroke/AF), cost-effectiveness of screening, and molecular biomarkers. Work emphasizes diagnostic innovations and clinical guideline development.
Awards:
- Novartis Junior Scientist Award (2011)
- Best Oral Presentation, International Society of Hypertension (2019)
- Presidential Poster Prize (2011)
Advising & Grants: Supervised 4 students (Biomedical Science/Science Honours), with 3 manuscripts published and 5 ongoing projects. Secured >$500K in grants from Heart Foundation, NHMRC, and others.
Labs/Teams: Leads the Primary Aldosteronism Centre of Excellence (PACE), collaborating with institutions in Australia, China, Italy, and the U.S. Focus areas include PA registries, interventional radiology, and cardiovascular epidemiology.
