Julius Tolentino serves as an Adjunct Professor of Saxophone at Princeton University and Montclair State University, while concurrently holding the position of Jazz Director at Newark Academy where he conducts five jazz ensembles, wind ensemble, and middle school bands. He also directs Jazz at Lincoln Center's High School Jazz Academy and maintains active leadership roles in national jazz education organizations including the Jazz Education Network and NJAJE.
Educated at the Hartt School of Music under NEA Jazz Master Jackie McLean, Tolentino's academic foundation bridges performance excellence with pedagogical innovation.
His professional focus centers on Jazz Performance and Music Education, with specialization in saxophone pedagogy and ensemble direction. Tolentino has developed comprehensive educational frameworks that integrate performance practice with curriculum development, influencing jazz education standards across American secondary and higher education institutions.

Tolentino mentors thousands of students annually through Newark Academy's nationally ranked programs and Jazz at Lincoln Center initiatives. His ensembles consistently achieve top honors in prestigious competitions including Essentially Ellington (2012-2019, 2022) and Charles Mingus Competition (2011-2019, 2023), while securing twelve consecutive first-place victories at NJAJE State Finals. He regularly conducts All-State and All-City Jazz Bands nationwide, establishing standardized jazz education methodologies adopted by school districts across the United States.
He directs comprehensive ensemble programs at Newark Academy, previously led Large Ensembles at Jazz House Kids (2010-2017) and NJ Youth Symphony Jazz program (2018-2021), and founded the JTole Music platform to deliver global educational resources through video lessons and virtual workshops.
