معرفی
Juliet Stromberg is a Professor in the School of Life Sciences at Arizona State University, where she serves as an Affiliate Global Futures Scholar. She specializes in riparian and wetland ecosystems, particularly in arid and semiarid regions of the American Southwest. Her research examines how human activities influence riparian plant populations, communities, and landscapes, with a focus on conservation and restoration efforts.
Dr. Stromberg earned her Ph.D. in Plant Ecology from Arizona State University in 1988, following an M.S. and B.S. in Botany from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. Her educational background has provided a strong foundation for her extensive research on vegetation-hydrology interactions in desert rivers.
Stromberg's research interests center on riparian ecology, with particular emphasis on how human alterations like river damming, groundwater pumping, effluent discharge, and urbanization affect desert river ecosystems. She investigates the links between hydrological patterns and ecological processes to inform resource management decisions. Her work spans field studies along rivers of the desert Southwest, examining plant responses to changing water regimes and developing restoration strategies for imperiled wetland species.
Analysis of Stromberg's recent publications reveals a strong focus on hydrological-vegetation interactions in dryland rivers, with particular attention to climate change impacts, flood dynamics, seed dispersal mechanisms, and riparian biodiversity patterns. Her research increasingly incorporates interdisciplinary approaches, connecting hydrology, ecology, and conservation planning to address complex water management challenges in arid regions.
- Active participant in numerous scientific advisory committees including the Arizona Riparian Council, Southwestern Willow Flycatcher Habitat Enhancement Technical Advisory Committee, and the Technical Workgroup for the Verde River Ecological Flows Project
- Serves on editorial boards for Landscape Ecology and Society of Wetland Scientists
- Provides expertise to government agencies including USGS, BLM, and USDA on riparian water needs and restoration
Stromberg advises numerous graduate students and collaborates extensively with researchers across disciplines. Her grant portfolio demonstrates significant funding from NSF, EPA, DOD, and state agencies for projects related to riparian restoration, water management, and ecosystem services. She leads field research teams studying urban riparian forests, seed bank dynamics, and climate change impacts on desert river ecosystems, often working in partnership with The Nature Conservancy and other conservation organizations.
