Specializing in rangeland and riparian ecology, she has focused on cold desert ecosystems in the western United States and temperate rangelands of the Pacific Northwest and Canada since 1984.
- B.S., California State University, Chico (1981)
- M.S. and Ph.D., Oregon State University (1984, 1996)
Her research explores:
- Developing state and transition models for upland and riparian systems
- Quantifying water availability and vegetation change under management practices
- Improving sustainable grazing management techniques
- Restoration strategies for degraded rangelands
- Carbon cycling dynamics in semiarid ecosystems
- GIS applications for vegetation mapping
- Hydrological impacts of shrub canopy cover
Recent publications focus on grazing impacts, seed germination techniques, carbon fluxes, and digital mapping technologies. Her work emphasizes adaptive management tools for land stewards.
She leads the Rangeland Ecology Lab, conducting applied research to support ecosystem conservation and sustainable land use practices.
