Dr. Julien van Ostaaijen is an Assistant Professor at Tilburg University's Tilburg Law School (Public Law and Governance department) and a lecturer in Law and Security at Avans Hogeschool. His research focuses on governance, law, and security at decentralized levels, particularly examining municipal politics, party dynamics, and democratic resilience. He teaches courses like 'Lokaal en Regionaal Bestuur' and advises mayors through practical training programs. Additionally, he serves as a columnist for Binnenlands Bestuur and editorial board member of the Politics of the Low Countries journal.
His recent work explores topics such as municipal crisis management, ethical governance, and counterpower mechanisms in local democracy.
