Dr. Julie Stirrup is a Senior Lecturer in Physical Education and Sport Pedagogy at Loughborough University, within the School of Sport, Exercise and Health Sciences. Her work focuses on the interplay between policy, curriculum, and pedagogy in shaping physical education experiences across early childhood to secondary education.
She holds a BA (Hons) in English and Sport Science from Loughborough University, followed by a PGCE in PE. She completed her master’s in Physical Education and Sport Pedagogy part-time while teaching in a Midlands secondary school. Her PhD (2015) explored early years physical development. Her research examines how systemic factors like policy and curriculum design influence educational experiences, particularly regarding health, social class, and equity.
