Julie Smith Hinders

Julie Smith Hinders, Ph.D., is an Associate Professor and Health Management Program Director at the University of Minnesota Crookston. She joined the faculty in October 2023 and teaches courses in the Health Management program, including HSM 3200-E90: Health Care Leadership/Planning and HSM 4500-E90: Strategic Planning in Healthcare. Her research focuses on rural health issues, caregiver challenges, and leadership in healthcare organizations.

Dr. Hinders holds certifications as a Licensed Nursing Home Administrator and in Rehab Administration (University of Missouri Columbia). She is affiliated with professional organizations like LeadingAge MN, American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE), and Association University Programs in Health Administration (AUPHA). In 2024, she participated in a Charrette Workshop to enhance interdisciplinary collaboration, and in 2025, she joined the Scholarship of Teaching & Learning (SoTL) cohort to improve online learning outcomes.

The University of Minnesota Crookston, where she works, was ranked a top school for online healthcare education in 2024 by EduMed.org. Her educational background includes a Ph.D. in Health Services and a Master of Health Administration (MHA).
