Her research focuses on 20th-century American writers, war literature, dystopian narratives, and the intersection of religion and literature. She emphasizes fostering connections between students and literary figures through critical reading practices. Ooms earned her PhD in English from Baylor University and a BA in English from Dordt College.
Her academic accolades include the 2022–2023 MBU Distinguished Professor Award and the 2020 Emerson Excellence in Teaching Award. She has also been a Discussion Fellow exploring theology and modern science (2019–2022) and participated in seminars on Virgil and Dante’s Divine Comedy.
